IMPOSEIQ EMBELLISHMENT STUDIO

The very first launch on a machine builds and caches the render engine, which can take up to a minute. After that it opens straight away.

1 · Artwork

Drop in a print-ready PDF and you'll be asked which pages, layers and spot inks are artwork, spot UV or foil.

My presets

Presets stay on this computer. Export the file to share a house look with another rep or to keep a backup.

2 · Embellishment channels

Everything below acts on the highlighted channel. Foil only transfers where you put it, independent of the varnish.

3 · Wand — add Spot UV & foil

Turn the wand on, then click a color on the sheet. Everything within the range joins the selection, and clicking another color adds to it. Widen the range to take in more of a gradient. Click Wand again, or press Esc, to turn it off. Undo steps back through every change to the channels, and Reset channel puts the selected one back to how it arrived — the separation you imported, or empty if you started from nothing.

4 · Surface pattern (whole side)

A stock texture across the entire side — every bit of it, not just where there's ink or DuSense coating. Good for a linen or textured cover stock, or the ripple/dot pattern on an embossed hang tag.

DuSense® digital spot UV

DuSense builds up to 80 µm, from 10 µm (DDC-8000) or 15 µm (DDC-810 PRO). The grayscale channel is a build ramp, not an on/off stencil: a 1% pixel still has to carry a coatable film, so any inked pixel lands on the 10 µm floor and 100% black lands on the height set here. Foil needs a heavier base, so anything under the foil channel is lifted to at least 25 µm on the exported plate.
The bright edge that outlines a raised coating or foil shape at a glancing angle — a real optical effect, not doming (doming only controls how rounded that edge is). Turn this down to soften or remove the outline; 0% removes it entirely.
On Auto the coating simply appears on whichever sides the spot UV channel actually has work on — draw on side 2 and it shows up there. The fixed settings are for switching a side off without erasing its channel.

DFL digital foil

Below 50% the foil fades in; above 50% it drives harder — more mirror, more contrast against the stock.
Spot UV and foil are separate press passes, so the two can drift out of register. Spread (positive) grows the foil slightly past the varnish edge so a little under-registration never leaves bare coating showing at the border. Choke (negative) pulls the foil back inside the varnish so a little over-registration never lands foil on bare stock. Only affects a foil channel you've actually drawn — it does nothing while foil is simply following the varnish untouched.

Unifoil® metallized substrate

The sheet itself is metal and the ink prints over it, so the metal reads through wherever the artwork is open — that is the whole point of the stock, and why show-through is driven by how light the artwork is rather than by a separate channel. Foil and varnish still layer on top independently.

Auto-orbit is the fastest way to show a customer how the varnish and foil catch the light.

Environment

The backdrop is only what you see behind the piece. The room below still lights it and is what the foil and spot UV reflect.

Background photo

Drop a photo of the customer's showroom, a desk, a shelf — anything the piece would really sit in. It becomes the room behind the sheet and what the foil and spot UV reflect, which is the part that stops a preview looking like a render. A wide panorama wraps the whole way round; an ordinary snapshot fills the part of the room it would really occupy.

Product / substrate

Importing a 2-page PDF offers page 2 as its own "Back side / other side" role in step 1, for genuine back/other-side artwork — a bottle's rear label, a table tent's other panel — rather than the mirrored repeat above. When that's set, it takes over automatically and the checkbox above is ignored.

Printed piece

Turns the artwork and both embellishment channels together, so a landscape file becomes a portrait piece with the spot UV and foil still in register. Four presses bring it back round. Shortcut: R.
Physical size drives the texture scale and how the coating height reads — 45 µm on a business card is not 45 µm on a poster.

Box / book

Spine is set in inches — 1.00″ is the default. With the jacket box ticked the artwork wraps continuously across back, spine and front, so the varnish crosses the hinge exactly as it will on press.

Brochure

The artwork is the whole flat sheet, so the Width above is the full open width across every panel. The panels stand in a zigzag and the spot UV and foil run across the folds exactly as they will once the sheet is scored and folded — which is how you show a customer that the foil lands on the right panel. Wider opening shows more of the back; a tighter one looks like a brochure standing half-closed.

Door hanger

A door hanger is cut to its own size rather than to the artwork's shape, so it takes its width and length from here instead of from the Width slider above. 4¼ × 11″ is the stock size. The knob hole is a percentage of the width, and the slit runs out of it at eleven o'clock — both are really cut, so what the die removes from the artwork is what you see.

Embellishment plate

Send the channel to press as a registered plate, at the printed piece's exact size. Spot UV goes out as a continuous 8-bit grayscale thickness map: any inked pixel carries at least 10 µm, 100% black carries the coating height, 25 µm minimum under the foil, and a plate value of 255 always means 80 µm. Foil goes out hard-thresholded as a Separation at 100% K. Both sides are included whenever side 2 carries channel work of its own.
