ImposeIQ VDP guide

Connect a template to records, place live fields, inspect the variable result, and export the format the production line needs.

Quick start

  1. Open the template PDF.
  2. Drop a CSV or Excel file and verify the first row contains column names.
  3. Add a text, number, barcode, or QR field and map it to a column.
  4. Preview several records, including the shortest and longest values.
  5. Choose 1-up, imposed, or PDF/VT output and merge the required record range.

Template PDF

The template supplies the fixed artwork. Confirm its page size and selected page before placing variable fields.

Data

Use CSV or Excel data with a clear header row. Inspect the data preview and record count before building fields. Clean unexpected line breaks and empty required values in the source data.

Fields

Place text, numbers, barcodes, and QR codes on the artwork. Map each field to a column, choose its font and alignment, and inspect records that contain unusually short or long values.

Imposition

Use the imposition stage when merged records should go directly to press sheets. Confirm the sheet, grid, gutters, order, and duplex behavior just as you would for a non-variable job.

DC marks

Add finishing marks and cutter data after the imposed layout is correct. Verify record order against the sheet slug when reprints or ranges are likely.

Merge and export

Choose the full run or a From/To record range. A tracking sheet can list every record in the run. Keep absolute record numbers visible when producing a partial reprint.

PDF/VT record fields

PDF/VT output adds per-record DPart metadata for compatible production systems. Use it only when the downstream RIP or workflow expects PDF/VT.

Projects

Save the complete job as a .viq project so the template, fields, data mapping, imposition, and output settings can be reopened together.

Troubleshooting

  • Missing columns: verify the source header row.
  • Text clips: preview the longest record and adjust box or type size.
  • Barcode does not scan: check value format, quiet zone, and output scale.
  • Wrong record order: confirm merge range and imposition sequence.
