ImposeIQ Package Studio guide

Turn a flat dieline PDF into the assembled package, with its spot UV, foil and metallic board, for customer approval.

Quick start

  1. Open a dieline PDF, or pick one of the built-in samples.
  2. Check the Dieline card: which line groups are the cut and which are the creases.
  3. Check Plates & layers: which spot inks or layers are spot UV, foil or white.
  4. Choose the board, lamination, foil and spot UV height.
  5. Press play to fold it up, turn it with the mouse, and save a PNG or a video.

What the PDF needs

One page laid out flat: the artwork, the cut and crease lines, and any spot UV, foil or white plates. Cut and crease lines can be spot inks named like CutContour, Die, Crease or Score, or layers named Cut and Crease; failing that, red solid lines are cuts and blue, green or dashed lines are creases. Spot UV, foil and white are found by spot ink or layer name and are lifted out of the artwork, so the art beneath shows through. Page 2 of a two-page file is taken as the inside print. In the online edition your PDF is read in the browser and never uploaded.

How it folds

The panels are the spaces between the cut and crease lines, and every crease with a panel on each side is a fold. A crease broken by a lock slit is still one fold, and a window cut inside a panel is a real hole. The largest panel stays still and everything else folds 90° away from the print, so the art ends up outside. Where flaps land in the same place — a glue flap under a side wall, dust flaps under the lids, a tuck behind the back — the smaller one goes inside by one board caliper. Step by step folds the body first and closes the flaps from the inside out.

Changing a fold

  • Click a panel, then move Fold angle; Fold other way reverses it (a reverse tuck or crash-lock).
  • Put outside / Put inside swaps which of two overlapping flaps is on top.
  • Make base keeps the clicked panel still — usually the front.
  • Board caliper sets how far stacked flaps sit apart.

Board and finish

White SBS prints the art as it is; kraft darkens the transparent inks with the brown board. Metallized board (silver, gold or holographic) shows through the CMYK unless white ink is underneath — from the white plate, under all printed areas, or none. Spot UV is a raised clear gloss whose height you set; it shows best over matte or soft-touch lamination. Foil follows the foil plate in the colour you pick.

Samples

  • Lone Star Coffee — tuck-and-tab box, matte teal with striped spot UV and gold foil.
  • Aurora Serum — tall reverse tuck carton with a die-cut window, on silver metallized board with a white plate and rose-gold foil.
  • Hill Country Tea — straight tuck box on kraft with copper foil and a gloss spot UV label.
  • Cacao 72 — open-ended chocolate sleeve on gold metallized board with soft-touch lamination.

Saving

Save PNG saves the view as it is. Save video records the sheet folding up step by step and a slow turn so the foil and varnish catch the light (WebM). The online edition marks both DEMO; the licensed Suite does not.

Troubleshooting

  • Nothing folds: no line group is set to Cut, or the creases are set to Artwork.
  • A panel folds the wrong way: click it and use Fold other way.
  • Spot UV or foil shows as a colour in the art: set that spot ink to Spot UV or Foil in Plates & layers.
  • Dieline lines show on the box: set their ink or layer to Dieline (hide).
