Overview
Presentation Folder Creator builds a pocket folder as the flat blank that gets printed and die cut, and folds it
up in 3D with the pockets glued and the cover open or closed. It is the Envelope Creator for folders: the same
views, artwork slots, variable data, text boxes, Spot UV and foil plates, press sheet and templates. Open it from Home and pick a
folder type on the start screen; Folders… in the top bar brings the start screen back.
Types and sizes
| Type | What it is |
| Standard pocket folder | One pocket inside the back cover, curved top, glue tab on the outer edge |
| Two-pocket folder | A pocket inside both covers |
| Pocket folder with card slits | One pocket with a business-card slit cut into its front |
| Expanding-spine folder | Two parallel folds on the spine (1/4″ to start with) so it opens flat on a thick stack |
| Report cover | Two covers and a spine, no pockets |
| Mini folder | 6 × 9, 4 × 9, 5 1/2 × 8 1/2 and 7 1/4 × 10 1/2 for brochures and invitations |
The other types come in 9 × 12 (letter), 9 1/2 × 14 1/2 (legal), 11 1/2 × 17 1/2 (tabloid), A4, A5 and A3. The size is
the size of one cover. Any size can be typed in; changing it puts the pocket height, glue tab and slit height back to what
suits the new size.
Pockets, slits and spine
- Pockets: none, the back cover, the front cover, or both. Opened, the front cover lies on the left and the back cover on the right, as a book does.
- Pocket height and top: a third of the cover height to start with (4″ on a 12″ folder). The top can be straight, a curved scoop, angled, or have a thumb notch.
- Glue tab: the pocket flap hangs below the cover; the tab on the cover's outer edge folds in first, then the pocket folds up over it and is glued down. The glue is dotted on the dieline. Untick the box to leave the tab off, for a pocket that is stitched or taped.
- Business-card slits: one straight slit or two corner slits, in the back pocket, the front pocket or both. Height up is measured from the bottom edge of the cover to the slit; the card stands above it. Across moves it from the middle of the pocket.
- Spine: 0 makes a single fold. Anything more makes two folds that distance apart, with the spine between them to carry its own artwork and a line of spine text that reads along it.
- Corner radius rounds the outer corners of the covers.
Flat and assembled
- Flat — outside: the printed face of the blank, with the cut line in red and the folds dashed in green. The pocket flaps hang below the covers.
- Flat — inside: the reverse as it prints — mirrored, because it backs up the outside — with the glue areas and any inside artwork.
- Assembled 3D: drag to turn, wheel to zoom, double-click to reframe. The first slider folds the glue tabs and pockets up; the second closes the cover. Flat, Open and Closed jump straight there and Turn over shows the other side.
Artwork
Every slot takes a PDF (page 1, kept as vector in the print PDF) or a PNG / JPEG image.
- Front cover and back cover: fitted inside the cover, or filling it with bleed to the edges. The art is clipped to its own cover so it never runs across a fold, and stops at the pocket's hinge.
- Spine: artwork and a line of text, when the spine width is more than 0.
- Logo and company details: the logo sits top left on the front cover and the address block bottom left on the back cover; a white background can go behind either.
- Inside front, inside back, whole inside spread: laid out as the folder looks opened flat. An optional pattern (tint, guilloche, repeating text) can go under it.
- Whole outside: a file that covers the whole flat blank plus bleed, for jobs laid out as a flat blank already.
- Personalised name, variable data and text boxes: as in the Envelope Creator — open a .csv or Excel file, type «Column» merge fields into the name block or a text box, and Print PDF writes one folder per record.
- Spot UV & foil: two plates for the front cover, from a mask file or from text boxes set to print as Spot UV or foil. Gilder in the top bar opens the folder in Gilder, its plates marked as Spot UV and gold foil, to see them catch the light and write the embellisher's files.
Press sheet — multiple up
The Press sheet card lays the flat blank out on a press sheet exactly as the Envelope Creator does, with the DSM-1000, UD-320 and digital-cutter marks, DDC circles and the DDC-810 QR. A folder blank is large: 9 × 12 two-pocket folders are about 19 × 16″ flat, so expect one up on a B2 sheet and two up on the small mini sizes. The checks tell you when a blank will not fit or a mark lands on a blank.
Saving, templates and samples
- Print PDF: page 1 the outside, page 2 the inside, with crop marks and a slug line; the dieline can ride in the same file. Dieline PDF has CutContour (cut and card slits), Crease and Glue spot colours.
- Templates: every setting on the panel, and the artwork when it is under 2.5 MB, kept on this PC and exported as an
.iqfolder file to move to another PC or send to a shop.
- Showcase samples: a law-firm proposal with a card slit, a two-pocket listing folder with spot UV and foil, a school admissions folder, an expanding-spine annual-report binder and a mini wedding invitation folder. Each opens fully editable. The brands and addresses are made up.
